Scam SEO. SEO cowboys, Sleazy SEO, whatever you want to call someone that professes to be an SEO and yet is only out to collect your money and rip you off, are unfortunately, a dime a dozen.

Us darn good seo's are way harder to find, however if you are reading this post, you just found an seo that will earn the money you pay her, and get the results you are looking for in search engine results... I'm not into giving my skills away, but I often do take payments for my work, in fact I prefer payments, that way I know you will be happy with the results you receive and pass my name around.

Dentist in Chula Vista, SD Loves Results of My SEO Services. I'm doing SEO on few websites for a San Diego Dentist, it's part of a large project doing 4 different websites.
This dentist has had a website for 3 years, and never had a patient from come to him after seeing his site. Ok, so Kym head of graphic design and website development from CANZ Design rebuilt the site… and is still working on it… but almost done. I the SEO, have highly targeted a few keywords, the procedures that he loves doing including Braces and Implants. So far they have had only 703 visitors to the site since it opened, on the 24^th of January, honestly I have to admit, probably about 100 of those visitors have been Me, working on the SEO on the CMS that runs the site… J
The site opened on January 24th '09.
January: No new patients in the first 7 days, no big surprises there… February:– 2 new patients one for Braces, and one for Emergency Weekend Dental Care in San Diego. March: 1^st – 15^th
 
Wait for it… Drum roll Please, only 199 visitors in the first 15 days of March 09 …. not that impressive huh.... ok, undrum roll that… Click this Link, the picture won't display well in this blog. http://seobycanz.com/images/Dentist-march-1-15.JPG What is Impressive, and a really big drum roll now, is the number of new patients, this San Diego Dentist Received, via his website… 12 new patients. 

Update: 16 visitors became patients in the month of March, that's 4% of visitors all visitors to his site for March, became new patients. That's pretty darn impressive I think,

SEO done right the first time

I often have people come to me unhappy with their current seo, they went to some place that you can advertise for staff or workers, made an ad, and took the lowest bid they received,
and wonder why after 8 months, they still can't find their website in search engines or that all the visitors are coming from the wrong part of the world.

It's no good if your business offers a local service to only San Diego Clients if your website ranks highly in India, or New York, or even Los Angles for that matter. You want your business website to reach out to clients you can sell your service to.

I say in my signature below, that I'm not cheap, but I get results, I have had mature websites, ranking in top search engine positions, within 2 days of starting their optimization. Not for every phrase, Google doesn't go through a whole website that quickly, and thats impossible anyway, to rank highly for every single keyword, but results started appearing with 2 days. At most on a website that has been online for say at least a year, the first results start appearing in a week and usually settle down to where they are going to stay without more tweaking within 6 weeks.

I will keep taking on these unhappy seo clients, but if you are considering SEO for your website, then contact me first, I'll save you money in the long run, because even though I cost more than someone that get's paid $2.50 an hour, my only language is Engish, I understand the concept that it's not just getting people to your website, you want them to do something once they are there. I have recently taken on yet another SEO job, from a business that was using an Indian SEO company.

The owner decided to change SEO, because he found a website that shows where the website visitors are coming to your website from, and 98% of visitors were from Indian IP addresses.... This is a business which operates strictly in California, Texas, and Florida, although they are looking at expanding to other States in the US, but never internationally.

This business has been having the Indian "SEO team" work on his business website for several months, they charge $250 a month.... The owner sent me the last monthly report of what they had done it was about 12 pages long and looked at a glance, to someone that didn't understand what they were reading very impressive. very impressive indeed.

HOWEVER: I looked at it, and in fact what they had supposed to have done would only take about 30 minutes to do. Let me explain.

They had changed 1 links on 7 pages, to show as bold rather than normal text. In Dreamweaver, this would take about 5 minutes, with search and replace, so the 5 minutes includes opening the program and opening the pages, changes saving and closing the pages, lets give them the benefit of the doubt and think they has slow internet and slow computers. So opening 7 pages may take the while on an old computer.

They had added the phone number to the same 7 pages meta tags, since dreamweaver is now open, as are the pages they are working on, this would only take about 1 minute.

Added alt tags to 5 images on the same page, this has to be done manually, since the wording was different, but still with copy and paste, it would only take about 10 minutes max.

Validated 4 webpages. And fixed errors, that they had made in the first place, since they built the site, I won't even quote a time on that, because you can't charge clients to fix mistakes you made.... well I don't

Submitted 2 blogs to 2 blog search engines.... 5 minutes... if you are any kind of SEO you would already have the links to the submit page.

Submitted site to 30 social bookmarking sites, 10 of these sites were not written in English, so of little use. This would cost me $5 to have done.

They had 40 directory submissions done, this job a sub-contract and would cost me less than $6

Link Exchange 39 link exchanges... this is an interesting one, because I checked this site for broken links, and many of these "Link Exchanges" had broken links to them, done purposely, and

1. If you actually looked at the domain names, 25 were the same as the directory submissions above
   
2. a few the site didn't even exist, something you wouldn't notice if you didn't check.
   
3. many of these places were just directory type places, and had no real website so they weren't real link exchanges which takes a lot of time to do. so again
   
4. many of the real sites were again non-English sites.

Since these changes had no real value. Adding the broken links to this sites pages 15 minutes at most

really interested now, I then went on and checked the pages for the "work done", none of the pages, and none of the work done was yet in the search engines,

So thats 30 minutes, and $11 work, now writing the report, THAT would have taken a good 2 to 3 hours to collate all the information, and get it looking good, and read 12 pages long, in a pdf.... but still the business was paying $250 a month, for 30 minutes, and $11 work

My dilemma is, should I tell the client that they have been ripped off. So what is gained by telling a client this sort of news. The client get's upset, hell I would be, I'd be furious, so nothing gained there,

So whats in it for me if I tell client, will the client think any more of me for upsetting them?
I think not, of so will they trust me anymore, I don't see why, it's not good getting bad news about someone you have had a good or even an ok relationship with.

Will they pay me anymore... doubtful, why would you pay someone more for telling you you have been ripped off ... so there's nothing to gain, and really possibly a lot to lose, as the client may become distrustful of all seo's... and hey that's what I do, if this client was to talk about the ripoff, other people may become distrustful of SEO's and one of them may be a future client.

I'm charging an extra $100 a month, so $350 total, and have already spent 18 hours working on the SEO for their site, 16 hours fixing broken links, and missing images, and other errors left by the previous SEO.

When I do seo on a regular monthly bases for a business, I find the best way to do the work is as soon that months payment clears, I do the work for the month, that way the SEO Services I provide, are working for the website in the search engines well before the next month payment is due, I also tend to do more SEO at the start of the contract, giving the site the best chance possible, I often do far more work than I'm paid for, and often end up getting burned, as a client then expects that to carry on.

Gosh I would give poor Mr. Google a nervous breakdown, if I carried on like a bull out of a gate. And in actual fact, you lose gains made if you start changing things you have already changed. before google has spidered it and ranked, if you don't wait to see the results, and let the results settle down.

They say "We learn by our mistakes" I guess, although I don't seem to. I can't stand to see a site not reaching it's potential. Or at least make enough changes initially get things moving in the right direction, but I need to pace myself, and just do what I'm paid for, and then when a clients see's the results in a few months time, they can choose to increase that steady monthly payment.

In this time of economic crises businesses are looking at the ways they are spending money, and seeing that often their websites are bringing in the business they had hoped.

The sad thing is there is no reason that a website should not bring in plenty of business, with good SEO a website can rank well in search engines, and get visitors ready to spend money.

The problem is the SEO, many so called SEO company's optimize business websites for the wrong phrases, more often than not, an SEO company will optimize the whole website for a business name. Whereas only one page needs to be optimized for a business name, the other pages should be optimized for the products or services that a business offers, but not only

however more often than not, SEO company's optimize for some obscure phrase or phrases, because they don't take the time to check what people actually search for.

There’s another type of SEO, which is called blackhat SEO, if the owner knows it's going on, and sleazy SEO if the website owner doesn't know about it.

Blackhat SEO is SEO that works, unless Google finds out you are doing it, but is considered cheating. This site I talk about has been doing it for at least 5 years that I know about and has never changed the page.

The "blackhat SEO" technique I'm talking about is when someone adds keywords or key phrases that are the same color as the background to a page, take a look at the front page of this site

When the page opens, do a control A on your keyboard which means "select all" and see all those keywords down each side of the page? That when you unselected aren't visible , this is a blackhat SEO technique that is often used to help a site rank better for a particular or several keywords or phrases.

I first come across this website when I was doing SEO on our photo bank, as I couldn't understand why it was doing so well for a particular phrase that I was trying to do well in too.
I have heard that if Google becomes aware of a site doing this it will be blacklisted, I have never known of a case where this has happened, but it has been reported several times on forums, of course once the site is gone, it's too late to see it lol.

There are better ways that are called "whitehat SEO" of getting a site ranking well that aren't cheating, but I thought I would show you techniques that are used by some SEO's, that could possibly get a site taken out of search engines, and where the owner of the website didn't even know it was happening.

So if you have had SEO done on your site, it pays to do this little check hopefully before you pay your SEO, and be warned if your SEO has done this, as - in all probability - they have used other blackhat techniques that may get your site banned.

This story is an all-too-common one.

Making the google page rank the highest it can be is the hardest job for an SEO to do. It takes many many hours of work. And the higher the page rank is, the higher the website will rank for popular keywords.

I have seen many many SEO's that have made deals with the owners of large websites with High Page ranks, that allow the SEO can add links to their clients website, passing the high Pagerank along the SEO's client. The owners of the big sites can get paid upwards of $800 a month for these links which is pretty good money, when you think that they could have 10 or 20 different links from the same SEO.

Anyway, these same SEO's charge many thousands of dollars to their clients to first raise their Page Rank, when all they did was add the link to say 20 pages of the high ranking website, then $2000-4000 each month to upkeep the SEO for the site.

The problem comes when the website owner doesn't want to keep paying the $2000-4000 then suddenly the links are gone from the high ranking website, the page rank of the website drops, and suddenly they can't find their website in search engines.

What choice does the website owner have but to go back to the SEO, who has by then raised their prices, and ask them to take them back on as clients. I have talked to people of SEO forums that have spent 30-40 thousand dollars in the past 12 months, just getting the SEO to take them back on as clients.

When I do SEO for a client, I make sure that the work I do will last for years after I stop doing the SEO. The only time they might lose a position is when a website selling the exact same thing get's there website SEO'ed. I have two sites that sell gemstones that I do SEO for and I make sure they will both get high ranking for different keyphrases, so they don't conpete with each other.

It would be very easy to do SEO for 20 or so sites that have the exact same product, and not have them competing in search engines.

I don't think it is a matter of how long you have been trying...how long you have been succeeding seems far more relevant.

That is no doubt why you asked for an account of what work I would do for the $500 quote, that should have been $2000, so you could do the work yourself, and not bother paying me.

Still to be fair our own site, which get's the least SEO work done on it at all, was only getting about that many about that many last year and until Feb 07 when I did some directory submissions 200 of them, now we will get about 5250 this month, that domain name was brought in 04, so you have 3 years head start. There's a lot of hope for your site with 1300 submissions, keep you fingers crossed.

Back in March we paid Lynny $125 to do SEO search engine and directory
submissions for this site. True, and I have to admit, I hung off doing about 2/3 of the submissions until the new site we built was up, as I didn't think anyone would accept your old site.

Can you see the difference in unique visitors? (i can't, ...in fact i see a decrease but that's probably a seasonal variation cause not all months are the same).

So actually it was even worst, unfortunately I must have choosen the wrong directories you did stipulate that you only wanted to be added to directories with high PR, against my advice.
That still is disturbing, but looking at your stats for the year before, yes you do have a seasonal drop in those months. But I am still getting resposes to submission for your site, so the ones I did will be getting mixed up with the next ones now, though still there should have been a few more directory's visiting your site, as I explain later.

Last month (Sept) we paid CheapestSubmissions.com NZD $135 ...can you
see the diffrence for September & October? ...I can, 57% increase
during September, and a 40% increase compared to previous month prior
to the submissions for October.

This is not a true indication of visitors, each directory a website is submitted to make a visit to the site before they accepting or rejecting it.

So his visitors are actually down, drastically, but as I have said in other posts, directory submissions will help brings visitors to your website, so they will come maybe next month or the month after, or the month after...oh that would be Jan 08, another bad month... you will see the visitors went up 5 or 6 weeks later in May and September, from my submissions, thats how long it usally takes for directory submissions to actually start working.

I will write a case study tomorrow with screenshots, when this month is finished in the stats, that shows after a submission of only 300 increased a websites vistors by over 6000 in 6 months. So you have already mentioned your website name so I don't need to, you can maybe expect about 18,000 visitors by March next year, by then the submissions I did will be all handled by them so prehaps you can get another 6000, you won't know whatto do with yourself huh.

Make up your own mind... would you rather be paying $125 for a -3%
decrease for one of your sites, ...or $135 for an average +49%
increase (over 2 months following)? ...the stats tell the story

Yes the stats does tell a story, the new website we designed and built in July is being accepted by more directory's, and it is coming up to Christmas, when traditionally your website visitors, and your stats are actually up as well. It's a little unfair to say you will get 18,000 visitors in 6 months, there are only 2 reasons people visit a webhosting website, either becuase they are starting a webhosting company themselves and want to look at your prices and undercut them, or they are looking for webhosting, so perhaps you can send me another email in April, and I will post it here, to show the increase in visitors from both my submission and the one thats just been done.

These guys seem to be very good, I'm not in anyway saying their service isn't good, I haven't used it, but in fact I might try them out myself. and I will allow the link to them to stay on this blog, and on my new website where I will also post this particular post.

It is unfair for the person that wrote this bad testimonal to compare my prices with Indian prices, thats like comparing Sak's with K Mart or a 99 cent store.

This website is a good example of duplicate content, and dealing with friends, or in this case a friends of a friend, and giving GOOD DEALS to someone, which I will discuss in a future post.
